NEW! How you can make your stay more authentic, sustainable and memorable

These tips provide the insider’s knowledge on how travelers can engage with local culture, make their vacations more memorable, promote sustainability in the region, and enhance their overall holiday experience.

  • Travelers can explore the intimate atmosphere of Lanai by taking a walk around Dole Park in Lanai City, browsing the shops and eating at its local restaurants. The small town feel and a profound sense of aloha makes visitors feel very special.
  • To engage with local culture, travelers can participate in The Ho`okipa Cultural Program (meaning “hospitality” in Hawaiian), which is an on-going series of interactive cultural classes created by Lanai's kupuna, or Hawaiian elders, for resort guests.  As with its namesake, the program’s goal is to enrich and inspire visitors, while allowing access to the island’s most revered elders.  Through the volunteer efforts of respected kupuna, Four Seasons is able to share Lanai's rich heritage with its guests.  The program allows visitors to experience an authentic sense of place combined with a deep understanding of Lanai's past, present and future.  Program highlights include ukulele lessons, coconut weaving, lei making, and “talk story” sessions.
  • Four Seasons sponsors and encourages guests to participate in local cultural events, including the Festivals of Aloha in September, Lanai Ukulele Festival and Slack Key Guitar Festival in the summer, and October's Ho'okupu Hula No Lanai Cultural Festival.
  • Four Seasons Resort Lana`i at Manele Bay features The Growing Keiki Program, where keiki, along with their parents, are invited to plant taro, a Hawaiian staple, in Manele Bay’s Hawaiian Garden in an effort to support sustainability and a healthier planet.  Intended to encourage children to appreciate Lanai’s unique environment, the enriching program teaches the littlest guests about Hawaiian culture, sustainability and how to make a difference now and for future generations.  As with all living things, the taro plant represents growth, prosperity and longevity and will thrive in the Hawaiian Garden for years to come.
  • Four Seasons Resorts Lanai feature The Giving Tree Malama Aina Program, meaning caring for the land in Hawaiian, which is an initiative to contribute to the reforestation of the Koloiki Ridge and support sustainability.  Part of the Resorts enriching Hookipa Cultural series, includes a five-mile guided hike with a kupuna, or Hawaiian ancestor, from The Lodge at Koele to the Koloiki Ridge.  Along the hike, the kupuna shares cultural insight about the land, history and indigenous species found along the forested trail.  Once visitors reach the summit, they are invited to plant a native seedling.
