NEW! How you can make your stay more authentic, sustainable and memorable

These tips provide the insider’s knowledge on how travelers can engage with local culture, make their vacations more memorable, promote sustainability in the region, and enhance their overall holiday experience.

  • Maldives ecosystem is very fragile, and all travelers are strongly encouraged to do their best to protect the local environment. First of all, a number of items may not be exported, from Black Corals to Triton Shells. Second of all, fishing or collection of several species from marine life including lobsters and turtles is prohibited.
  • To get a better sense about Maldives, travelers are recommended to do Island Hopping (a visit to a near local island) excursion, where guests can walk, shop, and see local life, including how locals made boats. Another recommended excursion is the visit to Maldives’ capital city Male, where a city tour with local guide can be arranged, and travelers can visit the fish market, museum, old mosque , precedence palace, and enjoy the submarine trip on the same day.
  • An interesting fact published by the Maldives Tourism Board about local people: “It is a typical island custom that everyone finish their work by late afternoon, take their daily showers or bath near their wells, dress the children in fresh clothes and go for a stroll in the island, visiting friends and relatives, delivering small bowls of fresh homemade curry, or taking some time to relax at the beachside, watching the late afternoon sun while the children play around at the beach.”
Please Note: Time restrictions and extra charges may apply for some activities, watersports or facilities. Some restaurants may be open for certain meals only, have a dress code in effect and/or require reservations.
