NEW! How you can make your stay more authentic, sustainable and memorable

These tips provide the insider’s knowledge on how travelers can engage with local culture, make their vacations more memorable, promote sustainability in the region, and enhance their overall holiday experience.

  • To enhance the knowledge of the local Mayan culture, travelers are encouraged to attend the Ecological parks such as Xcaret and Xelha which showcase the Mayan culture and present ancient ball games and dances. The hotel is currently working on a program with Xelha in which guests can visit the ME Garden located within the ecotourism park and plant a tree
  • One of its most important celebrations on the East Coast of Mexico is the annual Quintana Roo Carnival, which takes over the streets of Cancun in mid-February. For five days both locals and tourists are enjoying numerous parades of allegorical carriages and dancers imbuing every corner of Cancun with color and joy.
  • During turtle season the hotel actively participates with the SEMARNAT in the protection of sea turtles by nesting and then releasing turtles. Guests are always invited to release turtles when they are born. This activity is a very special experience, and it also builds awareness in the importance of protecting this endangered species.
  • Being certified as a Biosphere hotel, ME Cancun promotes local designers and artists at its boutiques. For example, at Erika Flores Boutique guests can purchase the original designs by Erika Flores, Mexican designer who has among her various clothing lines the one called VISTE CON ARTE (Wear the art) in which women from local communities embroid, paint and sew to her clothing line in order to promote the local mayan designs. Guests can also purchase La Bola Maya, a Mayan product with part of the earnings being contributed directly go to Mayan communities.
  • The hotel engages in Green program where information cards are placed in all bathrooms and bedrooms encouraging guests to reuse towels and linens.
